Grantown Open Studios is an exciting new event launching in 2025, bringing together 18 artists from Grantown-on-Spey.
The sun spills warmth upon the earth and the air is quiet, other than birds pouring their bright verses into the breeze. The same breeze glides over the lochan, a calm lapping clashes with the light that hurls itself against the surface, shattering into silver fragments.
Cold is settled in after some mild weeks, there’s a sense of normalcy again. My legs require a hill to climb, and the day brings snow-fall, big wholesome flakes that steadily blanket the ground…
I watch the sunrise through the window. The house is full of winter illness and everything seems too far away to grasp. The sky begins to stir, not in haste, but with the quiet certainty of something ancient. What time is it?
Coastal air is calling. I step through the dunes at Findhorn, the grasses are waving gently in the soft and light air. The sound waves from the ocean now reach me with their full force. This is a place I want to be at this very moment.
